Meet – Victor Serdyuk, Junior Support Engineer

Today our guest is Victor Serdyuk, who celebrated his first half year of being a support engineer a couple of days ago.

– Did your  your daily duties come to your expectations?

Mostly yes, but there was some unexpected stuff. For instance,  it turned out that  besides  technical things, support engineers have to talk  a lot  to customers  directly,  keep them posted on what has been done or what we are going to do, advise  how to avoid the issues in the future and answer various questions.

There was one more surprise. It is free English classes. They help to maintain and boost your English which you need for communication with customers.

– What knowledge and skills acquired at Educational Center do you use most?

Everything related to information search in the system: how to grep log files or  write SQL request. The skill to find information is a must for troubleshooting.

– What conclusion have you drawn on completion of your probation period? What can you recommend to those who have everything ahead?

First, listen to your mentors, don’t be afraid to ask your colleagues for help. It’s always better to ask and avoid a mistake. It’s also important to develop your soft skills while communicating with your colleagues or customers. I came to believe that they are as important  as hard skills.
