– What topics do you teach students?
Different times, different topics. For example, now it’s Linux-administration, networks, data bases (MySQL), web servers, VoIP-telephony. Before that Perl and Python, and before I joined PortaOne, I taught computational geometry, 3D graphics, and computer animation at University. Now 3D graphics is my hobby.
– And what is your favourite topic? Why?
It’s hard to say! There’s something good in every topic, and all of them are somehow connected with each other. In the beginning I was into networks and Linux, but then I took an interest in something related.
– How did you become a lecturer at the PortaOne Education Center?
Unexpectedly. It was in February 2012. At that time I was a graduate student at the university, I gave lectures to the undergraduates. That’s when I was recommended as a teacher for the PortaOne Education Centre. They sent a car, brought me to an interview, and here I am!
– What was the most interesting case from your practice?
Oh, there were a lot of different situations. Once, during the class the power went out, but we decided not to cancel it. The battery on the laptop was fully charged! As a result, we had a “cosy” lesson. All the students switched on the light on their mobile phones, we had a chat in a friendly atmosphere. That is the case when force majeure brings some kind of benefit and variety into everyday processes.
– Your advice to students.
Do not be afraid of difficult tasks! The main thing is to sort out the cause of the problem, and for this you need patience and diligence. The most important thing you have is not even your knowledge (if you don’t know something, you can always read it), but your personal experience. So do not be afraid of mistakes and try different solutions.
– Why do you learn from your students?
They see usual things in an unexpected way, they often ask interesting questions that make me reconsider things. As a result, they often find new solutions to typical problems. All this encourages me not to become rigid and to develop further.
