Julia Lebedeva

In spring 2019 Julia Lebedeva, one of the best graduates of the our center, joined PortaOne as a junior support engineer. She says that at first she thought people around her spoke a foreign language, but now she speaks it with confidence herself. In a year she grew up to be a middle engineer, became a senior shift engineer, and she recognizes that even at weekends sometimes she checks on things at work.

– When did you realize you wanted to work at PortaOne?

I was already studying at the Education Center and made it to the Top 10 of the best students. We were invited to a bowling mini-tournament with guys from Porta. It was like a mini team building. We got acquainted, asked questions. Before that I did not believe that it was possible to  get a job in IT just like that, after  free courses. And at that moment I realized that it was not the background that was important, but my results here and now. Well, I liked your guys.  Funny and easy-going.

– How did you find out about the PortaOne Education Center?

I have repeatedly heard about PortaOne courses at our university, read posts on FB. And an acquaintance of mine was doing it and told me that it was hard and very interesting. Before the start of training I was only familiar with Windows. But  I still decided to register and try it at least until the middle of the training. So said and done. I set my reminder not to miss the announcement about the next intake, and  monitored the information.

– What was the most impressive during the training?

Oh, Sense of victory after mashups and homework! And also, I liked Roman Volkov and his attitude. He was so enthusiastic about a teaching process. It was always very motivating. And also our group was very friendly and positive.

– What is the most important thing that you managed to learn?

If you missed something in the training, do it right away, don’t put it off until later. You lose your pace, and it will only get harder. Also, I learned how important it is to take a break in order to look at the task from a different perspective

– Finish the sentence: If it weren’t for the PortaOne Education Center, …

…it would have taken me a long time to find my way. And also – I would still think that you can get into IT only when you graduate from a specialized department, and already have basic skills.

– The most stupid mistake during the training / what would you like to avoid?

I can’t remember any, but there were “self-inflicted injuries”. When I caused problems myself, accidentally damaged something, restarted the wrong thing or I broke everything. Well, now I would have less doubts when choosing answers to the theory quizzes.

– What is your best memory of study?

When Roma played music through our systems.

When the first scripts worked as they should.

And then the renewal of replication. When I did not understand anything at first and then it all worked perfectly!

– What can you say to our students?

It’s Ok to make mistakes, doing nothing is not OK. So, don’t panic when you make a mistake. Get acquainted with Google! And do your best when it comes to learning SIP/RADIUS, it will be useful.
